     LaVonne Hollander, 84 of George, IA died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the George Good Samaritan Society.
 
     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, July 27th at St. John Lutheran Church rural Boyden, IA, with Rev. Mark Lund officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
 
     Visitation will be Thursday, July 26th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
 
     LaVonne Hollander was born March 1, 1934 in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of August and Elfrieda (Stegemann) Meyn. On April 15, 1934, she was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church. She was confirmed on March 21, 1948. LaVonne was raised on a farm near Boyden and attended Sheldon High School and graduated in 1952.
 
     LaVonne was united in marriage to Wilbert Hollander on August 27, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church near Boyden, IA. They spent most of their lives farming near Boyden. In 1992, Wilbert and LaVonne moved to George. During her lifetime, she helped on the farm and worked at the Sheldon Sun newspaper, Kats Hardware, Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and served as a hostess at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in George.
 
     She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Boyden, IA. LaVonne enjoyed helping with Sunday School and being active in Dorcas. She loved gardening, crocheting, fishing, reading and most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family. She and Wilbert enjoyed their trip to Alaska, along with many other fishing and bus trips over the years with family and friends.
 
     On March 18, 2008 LaVonne’s husband, Wilbert of 53 years, died after a battle with cancer. She remained living in their home in George until entering the Good Samaritan Society in George on March 17, 2016, where she remained until this past Tuesday, July 24th.       
 
     She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Warren) Tiedeman of George; and two sons, David Hollander of George and Darren Hollander of Boyden; a son-in-law, Mark Halverson of Linn Grove, IA; and seven grandchildren, Alicia (Wade) Klaassen of Hartford, SD; Cassie (Trent) Gusso of Sioux Falls, SD; Emily (Shaun) Battey of Sioux Falls, SD; Sara (Christopher) Legore of Marion, IA; Philip (Katie) Tiedeman of Shoreview, MN; Benjamin (Katie) Hollander of Hockessin, DE; and Joel (Kristi) Tiedeman of Harrisburg, SD; twelve great grandchildren, William Klaassen of Hartford, SD; Hudson and Declan Battey of Sioux Falls, SD; Sam and Callen Gusso of Sioux Falls, SD; Olivia and Ethan Tiedeman of Shoreview, MN; Evan, Lydia, and Natalie Legore of Marion, IA; Elsie Hollander of Hockessin, DE; and Harper Tiedeman of Harrisburg, SD; sister, Carol (Gilbert) Geerdes; sisters-in-laws, Lois Hollander of Boyden, IA, Elsie Kruse of Worthington, MN and Deanna Tiedeman of Hull, IA; brother-in-law, Lyle (Lorna) Hollander of Boyden, IA.
 
     LaVonne was preceeded in death by her parents, August and Elfreida Meyn, her husband, Wilbert Hollander; a daughter, Cindy Halverson, sister, Eleanor Hector, nephew, Michael Hector, sister-in-law, Lucille Engle, and 3 brother-in-laws, Waldo Hollander, Albert Kruse, and Dennis Tiedeman.
