Lawrence Helmers, age 88 of Sibley, IA died on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley.
A private family funeral service will be Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, Iowa with Pastor Tim Nappe, officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Memorials may be directed the the family.
Lawrence Dale Helmers was born on May 16, 1933, in Sibley, IA, the youngest son of Hio and Anna (Freesemann) Helmers. He was raised and attended school in Sibley, graduating in 1953.
On June 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Rae Blumeyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. To this union he was blessed with four children.
Except for the time of his military service in the Army, he lived and farmed on the family farm near Sibley. He continued to be involved in farming until his death. In 2003 Sheryl passed away.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was an enthusiastic Sibley High School sports fan. He was honored with “Fan of the Year” in 2003. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
On February 13, 2010, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Frick in Sanborn, IA and became the stepfather to her seven children. They lived in Ashton for a time and later moved to Sibley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanne; sons, Timothy (Judy Top of Sibley, IA) Helmers of Ashton, IA, Todd (Linda) Helmers of Spirit Lake, IA and Thomas (Carrie) Helmers of Parker, CO; son-in-law, Kirk Manske of Coralville, IA; seven stepchildren, Diana (Matt) Stewart of Oelwein, IA, Jan (Steve) Reeves of Bondurant, IA, Sheila (Ben) Christians of Sibley, IA, Steve Frick of Linn Grove, IA, Nancy (Brent) Dreessen of Sibley, IA, Jim (Tammy) Frick of Milford, IA and Dave (Keri Jo) Frick of Boyden, IA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; twenty-two step-grandchildren and thirty step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hio and Anna Helmers; his first wife, Sheryl Helmers, daughter, Laurilyn Helmers; four brothers, Raymond, Irvin, Albert and Marlin; two sisters, Phoebe and Esther.
