Leota K. Foltz age 89, of Rock Rapids, IA died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday February 15th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 14th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
Leota Katherine (Winter) Foltz was born July 23, 1929 in Lyon County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mary (LaFrenz) Winter. She graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1947. Upon graduation, she worked in the courthouse for the Lyon County Superintendent of Schools.
On January 25, 1948, Leota married her high school sweetheart, Glen D. Foltz, Jr., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. She and her husband were lifelong residents, raising five children while Glen operated Foltz & Son Construction. In 1972, Leota went to work for Central Lyon Schools as a paraprofessional and spent the next 35 years in elementary classrooms. In declining health, in April 2016 she moved to the Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Leota was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid and committee work. She was an excellent cook, and was always busy with sewing and craft projects. She played bridge in several marathons in town. She and Glen loved ballroom dancing. She loved her family, and entertained all the kids and grandkids at their summer cabin on East Battle Lake, MN.
On January 25, 2019, Leota and Glen celebrated 71 years of marriage. Leota died on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loved ones.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Glen; five children: Susan (Greg) Sutton of Harrodsburg, KY; David (Barb) Foltz of Rock Rapids; Peggy (Greg) Kruger of Ellsworth, MN; Lisa (Kirk) Miller of Sumner, IA; and G. Daniel (Elizabeth Griffin) Foltz of St. Louis Park, MN; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Bill (Barb) Winter of Springfield, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Michael, sister Betty Winter, brother Richard Winter, and two half-sisters: Mildred Fairell and Marie Witt.
