Leroy Arthur Griesse

     LeRoy Griesse age 74 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

     Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Friday, June 15^th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Kathy Sides officiating.

     Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be Friday, June 15^th from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. 

Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of services.

     LeRoy Arthur Griesse was born on April 19, 1944 in rural Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Arthur Griesse and Grace (Klosterbuer) Griesse. LeRoy attended Country School through the 7th grade and graduated from Central Lyon in 1962. Leroy was united in marriage to Judith Ann Johnson on August 31, 1964. LeRoy was a Deputy Sheriff for Lyon County, and was involved with investigating the Gitchie Manitou murders and later helped with the writing of the book "Gitchie Girl". In 1977, LeRoy started farming the family land south of Rock Rapids which he continued to farm until the time of his death. 
     LeRoy was a jack of all trades and could fix or design about anything. His shop buddies knew that if the green light was on, the Men's Group was in session. LeRoy had many hobbies including restoring old cars, the first of which was a 1938 Ford that he rolled. Some of favorite rebuilds were Jeeps. He was the Conductor of his HO model train set. LeRoy was a Rock Rapids Fireman for over 25 years. His biggest accomplishment as fire chief was organizing and burning down the old elevator with many local departments. 

     He is survived by wife of 53 years Judith Griesse; his daughter Lori Rens of Irvine CA; and son David (Amie) Griesse of Rock Rapids, IA; and grandchildren, Alexander Rens of Cedar Rapids, IA; Lexy Rens of Irvine, CA; Kade Griesse and Mia Griesse of Rock Rapids. 

     LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Grace Griesse.
