Leslie “Les” Luitjens age 71 of Ashton, Iowa died suddenly on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at his home rural Ashton.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at the Zoar Presbyterian Church in rural George, IA, with Reverend John Pea, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton.
Public visitation will be Sunday, March 28th with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton.
Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Leslie Lee Luitjens was born on December 26, 1949 in Sibley, IA, the son of Arnold and Maggie (Kruger) Luitjens. Les grew up on a farm in the Ashton area where he attended Gilman County #4 country school and later attended and graduated from Sibley High School in Sibley, IA. Following his graduation, Les continued to farm with his father and brother.
On February 21, 1987, he was united in marriage to Norma Postma at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, IA. To this union two children were born, Loren and Lora.
Les loved farming and raised Brown Swiss cattle. As a young man he was a member of 4H and FFA and showed his cattle at the fair and after having kids he encouraged them to do the same. Along with his farming Les worked as a substitute mail carrier for 15 years.
Farming was his life but Les also loved taking care of his grandchildren and playing board games and cards with them. He will be greatly missed.
Les is survived by his wife of 34 years, Norma Luitjens of Ashton, IA; son, Loren (Heather) Luitjens of Ashton, IA; four grandchildren, Lisa, Larissa, Levi, and Logan; one brother, Larry (Eileen) Luitjens of Ashton, IA; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold, and Maggie Luitjens; and daughter, Lora Luitjens.
