Lloyd Dean Baker was born November 27, 1940 in Harris, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Rena (Bosma) Baker. He was raised near Allendorf, Iowa. At the age of 9 years old, his family moved to Holland, MN where they farmed. When Lloyd was 14 years old his father died and Lloyd assumed additional responsibilities with the family farm and eventually had to discontinue his education. While working the farm he also drove milk truck and worked at the Bay Liner Boat Plant in Pipestone, MN. When he was 21 he moved to Newkirk, IA and began working as a mechanic for Schiebout Repair.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Sharon Buren on October 29, 1963 in Sheldon, IA. The couple was blessed with three daughters, Julia, Darla, and Sheila. They started in the Sheldon area where Lloyd worked as a mechanic and welder for Bilsland Shop near Archer, IA. In 1968 Lloyd began farming near Archer, IA. In 1971 they bought a farm near Lake Benton, MN. Lloyd however made a shift to driving truck back in Iowa for Mouw and the family moved to Iowa in 1978. He purchased his own truck and transported for Van Wyke Trucking and Sather Trucking. He then worked at Sheldon Implement where he wore many different hats including mechanic and truck driver. During this time, he also successfully completed his GED at 53 years old. After many years Lloyd retired, only to immerse himself in his own shop fixing his personal collection of tractors as well as helping many others.

Lloyd was a member of the Ashton Bible Church, where he would frequently sing solos to the congregation. He was a member of the Northwest Iowa Classic Tractors Association, Albert City Threshers, Power from the Past Association in Arizona, and the Arizona Early Day Gas & Tractor Association. If you couldn’t find him at his shop, he was probably at a tractor pull showcasing his impressive pulling skills and sharing his love of antique tractors.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Baker of Ashton, IA; three daughters, Julia Davis, Darla (Ray) Belz and Sheila Baker; three grandchildren, Sierra (Jacob) Norris, Chase Francis, and Noah Stoffel; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Ardys Manzey; two brothers, Leon Baker and Norman (Kim) Baker; a sister-in-law, Judy Baker; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rena Baker; a sister, Reugena Vander Syde; and a brother, Irvin Baker.
