Lois Glade

October 9, 1926 — March 8, 2021

Ocheyedan, IA

          Lois Glade age 94 of Ocheyedan, Iowa died Monday, March 8, 2021 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa.

     Funeral services will be 9:00 AM, Saturday March 13, 2021 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan with Reverend Richard Milbrandt, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  There will be a livestream link available to view the service at www.jurrensfuneralhome.com

     Visitation will be Friday, March 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Not all of the family will be present.

     The family requests masks and that social distancing be followed.

     Memorials may be directed to Tracy House Museum, Ocheyedan Public Library or Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.

     Jurrens Funeral Home Andringa Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

     Lois Bertha Hilda Behling was born October 9, 1926 to Julius and Louisa (Daberkow) Behling in Beemer, Nebraska.  She grew up on the family farm in rural Beemer and attended the Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School.  She was also baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran in rural Beemer.  On January 24, 1954 Lois was united in marriage to Arnold Wyman Glade at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer.  They made their home on the family farm in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa where they raised their five children.  Lois and Wyman moved to Center Lake in Spirit Lake, Iowa for a few years before moving back to Ocheyedan.  Wyman passed away in 1990.  Lois moved to Keelson Harbor in Spirit Lake in November of 2017, before moving into the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley in 2019.

     Lois was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for many years before becoming a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan.  She was an active member in the church, being a part of LWML, a Sunday School teacher at Zion, and sang in the church choirs. She was a 4-H leader for the Hortonette club.  She was on the board of the Tracy House Museum.  She volunteered at the Ocheyedan Public Library for 25 years, and also volunteered at Camp Okoboji. The Just for Fun Club was an enjoyable part of her life for over 50 years.  She had  quite the green thumb, she loved gardening and growing many plants.  She enjoyed quilting, traveling,  fishing, and going for many walks.  

     Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Russel (Lorenda) Glade of Ocheyedan, IA, Sandra (Mike) Smith of Denton, NE, Carolyn (Kent) Dvorak of Sandy, UT, Lynette (Duane) Tracy of Ocheyedan, Terry (Lori) Glade of Sioux City, IA; nine grandchildren: Edward (Mary) Glade, James Glade, Jacob (Stacey) Dvorak, Christopher (Jessica) Dvorak, Joseph Dvorak, Daniel (Samantha) Tracy, Seth Tracy, Elizabeth (fiancé Michael James) Glade, Sarah Glade; seven great grandchildren: Wesley, Oliver, Mason, Jackson, Noah, Finn and Estelle; sisters, Julia Langevin of Seal Beach, CA and Lydia Lambrecht of Beemer, NE; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Wynona Behling; and brother-in- law and sister-in-law, Ernest and Marilyn Schauland; along with extended family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 36 years, Wyman; brothers, Edgar, Ewald, and Julius “JR.” Behling ; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Glade.
