Lois Jean Loerts

     Lois Jean Loerts age 95 of Sibley, Iowa died Friday, February 24, 2023, at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

     Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 4th at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, Iowa, with Rev. Bart DeBoer officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Lois Jean Loerts was born on June 4, 1927 in rural Bigelow, Minnesota, the daughter of Lambert and Gertrude (Tuinstra) Post. After her father’s early death the family moved to a farm near Harris, IA. She graduated from Harris High School as the class Valedictorian in 1945. She joined the Army Nurse Cadets, graduating as an Registered Nurse from Morningside College and the Methodist School of Nursing. The war ended and the class was dismissed. Lois was a member of the Sibley First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She served on the Education department and taught classes for many years. Lois also worked with the 4-H programs for many years.

     She was united in marriage to Duane Loerts on June 14, 1954. To this union four children were born, Patricia, Terri Lynn, James, and Mary.

     The couple farmed many years northwest of Ocheyedan and after retirement they moved to Sibley, IA. Lois enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and was an avid reader.

     She is survived by her three children, Patricia (Peter) Hansen of Spencer, IA, James (Sue) Loerts of Omaha, NE, Mary (Tim) Erdle of Chaska, MN; six grandchildren, Jennifer Krieg, Scott Hansen, Daniel Erdle, Brittany Bader, Justin Loerts, and Dylan Loerts; two great grandchildren, Mercedes Krieg and Lennox Krieg; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Lambert and Gertrude Post; her husband of 65 years, Duane M. Loerts; 4 year old daughter, Terri Lynn; three sisters; and four brothers.
