Lois Carolyn Wagenbach Metzger, daughter of Simon and Louise (Klein) Wagenbach was born November 2, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois. She was one of 19 children. She lived in Tremont, Illinois and attended elementary and high school there. She worked for 3 years at Caterpillar running a key punch machine until her marriage to James Metzger, from Larchwood, IA on February 11, 1968.

After her marriage she and James moved to a farm place south of Hills, MN on the state line. Lois was raised in the Apostolic Christian Church and she and her husband were baptized and became members on Sept 21st, 1980. Lois kept herself occupied by raising her 6 children and wallpapering and painting for numerous customers for over 20 years. Throughout their marriage, James and Lois also spent time together buying and selling antiques. Lois was known for her Carriage Barn sales out on the farm. However, she always enjoyed returning to Tremont and visiting her family and friends.

Lois was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2005, but she persevered through that diagnosis and didn’t allow it to quench her spirit. She stayed as active as possible for as long as possible.

James and Lois moved to Hills, MN in 2011 where Lois resided until going to the Tuff Home after a fall in February 2020. In November, she moved out and enjoyed 10 weeks in Arizona with her daughter and son-in-law, Annie and Kevin Wulf. After this visit she returned to Minnesota to the Oasis Care Home in Luverne, MN. On Thursday, May 6th, she went into the Hospice Cottage in Luverne. On Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. she peacefully passed away surrounded by family. This was the ultimate Mother’s Day gift. She was healed of all pain and finally was able to return home.

Lois is survived by her husband of 53 years and five children, Clint (April) Metzger, Larchwood, IA, Stephen (Annette) Metzger, Hancock, MN, Ross (Heather) Metzger, Hills, MN, Molly (Scott) Bowman, Luverne, MN, and Annie (Kevin) Wulf, Willcox, AZ.  She also is survived by 10 grandchildren she loved deeply, Chaydon, Zavyr, Ryker, Daxtyn, Logan, Mandy, Brayden, Jamin, Karson, and Sophia. Also surviving are four brothers and eight sisters along with six sisters-in-law, and twelve brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Mariann Metzger; her son, James Metzger Jr., and a granddaughter, Kaylon Metzger. Additionally, preceding her in death were three brothers, three sisters, and five in-laws.

Lois was a devoted mother, family member and friend to so many individuals. She set a great example for everyone she knew on how to be a faithful servant of God and remained strong in her commitment to those she loved until the end. She in turn was loved by many and will be forever missed.
