Lonny Van Westen, age 60 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his home in Sibley, IA after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Funeral gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel in Sibley, IA. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery of George, IA.
Public visitation will also be Saturday, May 15th from 9:30 to time of service at 11:00 AM with the family present at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley.
Lonny Lin Van Westen was born June 25, 1960 in Rock Rapids, IA to Raymond and Carol (Cramer) Van Westen. He was raised in Rock Rapids and attended school there through the fourth grade when his family moved to Story City, IA. He graduated from Roland/Story City High School in 1978. He continued his education taking an apprenticeship of Plumbing and Heating in Texas. He continued that vocation working at Stanton Brothers of Sibley and Ben’s plumbing and Heating of Little Rock, until his health no longer permitted.
Lonny loved animals of all kinds. He owned and bred draft horses for a time in his life. But mostly he loved dogs. His most recent companion was his mother’s dog Alex. Before Alex there was Lonny’s special black lab Harley. Lonny enjoyed motorcycling as well. His Harley Davidson motorcycle provided much relaxation and fun for him over the years. He also enjoyed bowling league, fishing, and pheasant hunting. Most of all, Lonny loved his family. He cherished every moment he could spend with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Van Westen of Sibley, IA; sister, Lorinda (Laren) Monson of Everett, WA; brother, Mark (Angela) Van Westen of Story City, IA; nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Lonny was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Van Westen; brother, Ray Lee Van Westen; infant brother; and infant sister.
