     Lorinda (Lory) Rae Monson age 63 of Everett, Washington died Friday, February 18, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     A funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Jurrens Funeral Home in George, Iowa. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in rural George.

     Visitation will be Friday, February 25th with the family present from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

   Lorinda (Lory) Rae Monson was born January 5, 1959, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Carol (Cramer) Van Westen. She grew up in Story City, Iowa and graduated from Story City High School in 1977.

     On June 18, 1977, Lory was united in marriage to Laren Monson at the Story City Lutheran Church. To this union 4 children were born: Lynrae, Loren, Laura, and Lynet. They lived in Ames, Radcliffe, and Story City, Iowa. At one time they owned a pizza restaurant called Ramon’s in Story City. Eventually they settled in Snohomish, Washington in 1993.

     Lory was a weighmaster at Hallett Materials before facilitating an at home daycare center while she raised her younger children. After her children were older, she became a weighmaster at Cadman. Following Cadman, she became a Deputy Clerk for the Snohomish County Treasurers Office. She retired in 2017.

     Lory loved to travel and traveled a lot. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, music, BINGO, but most of all loved spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was a giver and always took care of those who she loved and cherished. She always brought laughter to the room and if you knew her, you loved her. Her zest for life, smile and positive energy were contagious. Her strength and resiliency were unmatched. Her family will always remember the sparkle in her eyes, her infectious laughter, her remarkable wittiness, her multifaceted intelligence, her golden heart, and her beautiful soul.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 44 years, Laren; mother, Carol Van Westen of Sibley, IA; children, Lynrae Monson, Loren (Kseniya) Monson of Granite Falls, WA, Laura (Justin) Spivey of Edmonds, WA, and Lynet (Anthony) Englmann of Killeen, TX; grandchildren, Keyanna, Jacqueline (JC), Imari, Leanna, Jason, Kai, Kaleb, Kaedon, Lola, and soon to be born, Judah; great-grandchild, Farrah; brother, Mark (Angie) Van Westen of Story City, IA; along with extended family and friends.    

     She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Van Westen; brothers, Ray Van Westen and Lonny Van Westen; and siblings in infancy, Margaret Ann and Billy Joe.

     Lory was a phenomenal woman that was deeply loved, is truly missed and will always be cherished.
