Lucille Groendyke

Sibley, IA 

     Lucille Groendyke age 94 of Sibley, Iowa passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Luke Schouten officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley.

     Visitation will be Friday, October 16^th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Lucille Groendyke, daughter of Cornelious and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Groendyke, was born November 8, 1925 at Ocheyedan, IA. She attended grade school in the rural schools of both Melvin, IA and Bigelow, MN. Lucille completed her High School education by correspondence course from the American School in Chicago, IL.

     From 1955 thru 1966, she served as Osceola County Deputy Recorder for Recorders Lillian Allard and Joyce Grush. In 1967 she became employed as assistant bookkeeper at the Sheldon Community Hospital. In March of 1974, she began working in the Osceola County Assessor’s Office and continued in that position until retiring from full-time employment on July 1, 1997. Lucille continued working as a part-time employee until 2008.

     She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA. She taught Catechism for several years and was a member of the Willing Workers Group.

     Lucille is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Kert) Cohoon of Rock Rapids, IA; one grandson, Konner Ryan Cohoon; two step grandsons, Mick Cohoon of Blue Earth, MN and Jim (Kylee) Cohoon of Ellsworth, MN; one great-grandson, Jackson; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Groendyke of Sanborn, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; four brother, Sebastian, John, Cornelius, and Edward; four sisters, Minnie Weg, Nellie Vander Wilt, Agnes Van Engen, and Margaret Zylstra; four nephews and three nieces.
