     Lynn J. “Butch” Doorneweerd, age 73 of Lester, Iowa died Friday, November 25, 2022, at his home in Lester.

    A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA.

     Visitation will be Monday, November 28, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 5:30- 8 PM with the family present at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester.

     Lynn “Butch” Jay Doorneweerd was born in Rock Rapids, IA on June 28, 1949 to Johannes (Joe) and Karoline (Wulf) Doorneweerd.  He was raised in the Lester, IA area.  He died at his home in Lester on November 25, 2022 at the age of 73.

     Butch started driving at the age of 9 so he could go to his grandparents and help on the farm.  He graduated from West Lyon Community School in 1967.  After graduation he attended trade school in Omaha, NE.  He then faithfully served his country as a conscientious objector in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, attaining the rank of SP5. He was an active member of the American Legion of Lester, IA.

     Upon his discharge, he farmed with his uncles, and then worked for Duane Gage.  In 1987 he started Doorneweerd Trucking, serving farmers in the area, local elevators, and other businesses, all who he counted as friends.

     On September 25, 1976, Butch was united in marriage to Marlys Metzger.  Together, four children were born to this union: Sherri Lynn, Curtis Joe, Betsy Rose, and Cody Lawrence.  Butch attended the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester his entire life where he and Marlys became members in 1979. Butch loved going to church to worship and visit with everyone that crossed his path.  Marlys preceded him in death on March 26, 2002.  Butch was united in marriage to Kathy Metzger on September 18, 2005.

     Butch loved his grandchildren, always giving them gator rides.  He always enjoyed playing Bid with family and friends, and having coffee with the shop crew.

     He is survived by his wife Kathy and his children and their spouses:  Sherri of Lester, IA, Curt and Cathy of Lester, IA, Betsy and John Strahm of Sabetha, KS, and Cody and Shay of Lester, IA.  Butch’s grandchildren are Jackson and Lucy Doorneweerd, Marlys, Hanston, Ward, Isabelle, and Mamie Strahm, and Ridley and Calder Doorneweerd. He is also survived by Lois (Ellsworth) Niemeyer, twin sister Linda Kellenberger, and Lavonne Doorneweerd.  Butch is also survived by Kathy’s family and Marlys’s family. 

     He was preceded in death by his wife Marlys, his parents Joe and Karoline, and his brother-in-law Verlyn “Burr” Kellenberger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to BEECIN, Lester Visioning, or American Legion of Lester.
