Marcella Langstraat

     Marcella “Marcy” Langstraat age 70 of George, IA died Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

     Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 21st at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA with Rev. Steve De Haan officiating.  Burial will be at the church cemetery.

     Visitation will be Saturday, December 21st from 11:00 AM until 1:45 PM at Hope Reformed Church of George.

     Marcella Faye Langstraat was born January 5, 1949, in Pipestone, MN, the daughter of Bernard and Emma (Veldhuizen) Jasper.  Early on she was raised in Ruthton, MN, where she attended elementary school. Later her family moved to a farm near Woodstock, MN, where she finished her elementary education.  She attended high school in Pipestone, MN, where she graduated from Pipestone High School in 1967.

     Marcy was united in marriage to Wilmer “Willie” Langstraat on October 13, 1967, in Woodstock, MN.  The couple made their home in Woodstock and were blessed with two daughters, Terri and Kristie.  In 1979 they moved to George, IA, where Marcy did daycare in their home and worked at the Boyden Egg Plant for a few years.  She then began working at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, IA, where she retired in 2013 after 32 years of employment.  Marcy also sold Avon for 39 years enjoying the many relationships she had developed with her customers throughout the years.

     She was an active member of Hope Reformed Church in George, where she was involved in the church choir, various work groups and committees.  Through the years, Marcy enjoyed playing cards, listening to gospel music, cross-stitching projects, completing crossword puzzles and collecting bells. She also participated in women’s and couples’ bowling leagues at the George bowling alley.  But most of all, she loved attending her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with friends and family.

     Marcy leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Wilmer “Willie” Langstraat of George, IA; and their two daughters: Terri (Brian) Borman of Rock Rapids, IA, and their child, Haley; and Kristie (Scott) Simonsen of Sheldon, IA, and their children Mikayla and Keely; her mother, Emma Jasper of Woodstock, MN;  four siblings: Susan Jensen (Brian) of Lake Shetek, MN,  Betty (Bruce) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN,  Randy(Cindy) Jasper of Pipestone, MN, and Beverly (JJ) Avila of McAllen, TX; a sister-in-law, Sharon Wahl of Ankeny, IA; and other relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Jasper; a sister, Marsha Wright; and an infant son.
