Margaret "Janie" Jane Krahling

George, IA

     Margaret "Janie" Krahling age 92 of George, IA died on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1^st at Immanuel Luterhan Church in George, IA, with Rev. Jeremy Winter officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

     Visitation will be Friday, September 30^th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA.

     Janie Krahling (Margaret Jane DeVries Krahling) was born on July 12, 1930, to Ted and Margaret (Hassebroek) DeVries on a farm two miles east of George.  Older brother Lawrence welcomed her home.  She graduated from George Public School in 1948 and National Career Schools of Omaha, NE later that year.  On January 10^th, 1950, Janie married Chub (Alvin F.) Krahling.  To this union were born three daughters, Maureen Kelly, Margaret Kay, and Mira Kim. Chub and Janie lived and farmed on Krahling corner until 1968 when they moved to George.  Janie was baptized, confirmed and joined the Immanuel Luther Church in 1950.  She worked as secretary to the Principal in the George School system from 1966 to 1992.  There is a generation of George graduates who fondly remember her. Janie was an excellent seamstress, making prom and wedding dresses for her daughters.  She spent many hours making cross stitch quilts for the family. Chub and she enjoyed collecting pink depression glass and other antiques. They enjoyed dancing and were excellent partners, spending many Saturday evenings with friends.  They loved spending time with their friends. Chub and Janie wintered in the south for a number of years, joining other family. Family was important to her; she enjoyed her daughters, grandkids, nieces and nephews.  Janie was a 34-year breast cancer survivor.  She was active her entire life, enjoying a lot of good health. She entered the George Good Samaritan Center in October of 2019 where she resided until she passed away on September 22, 2022. 

     Janie is survived by her daughters, Maureen Jordan of Rush City, MN, Maggie (Margaret) and Daryl Hammer of Decatur AR, and Mitze (Mira) and Rod Klingenberg of Marcus, IA; Grandchildren, Andy (Sarah) Jordan, Amos Jordan, Noah (Stacy) Jordan, Ben Klingenberg, Matt (Kelly) Klingenberg, Anna (Mitch) Erdman; Great grandchildren Deilia, Trevor, Soleil, Autumn, Mason, James, Aubrey, Mia, Caleb and Lily.

     Janie is preceded in death by her husband, Chub; parents, Ted and Mag DeVries; brother and wife, Lawrence and Irene DeVries; nephew, Ted DeVries; great niece, Jessica Layne DeVries, and many other family and friends.
