Marianne Groen, age 65, of George, IA died Sunday, December 25, 2022, at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Hope Reformed Church with Rev. Steve De Haan, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, December 28^th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Marianne Groen (Klaahsen), age 65, of George, Iowa went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Sunday, December 25, 2022. Born on April 24, 1957 to Kenneth and Kathryn Klaahsen, Marianne was the only girl in family with 3 brothers; Larry, Steve, and Curt. She loved telling stories about growing up with her brothers, including ones with BB guns and chores. After graduating at the top of her class from George Highschool, she went to Nettleton College in Sioux Falls where she met many lifelong friends that she loved very much. After college, Marianne married Dennis DeVries on April 22, 1977. They welcomed 3 daughters to their family; Jessica, Megan, and Kelsey. Jessica helped welcome Marianne to heaven Christmas morning. After Marianne and Dennis parted ways, Marianne met Larry Groen and were married May 17, 2001. Marianne loved Larry very much and enjoyed the time traveling with him while always reminding him how to drive. She always enjoyed bringing up the trip to the Black Hills when she told him he should stop and get gas but he thought they could make it… she was right. Marianne loved traveling, whether it be to Hawaii with Larry and Mary Jane, basketball games to watch Curt coach, the Black Hills with Steve and Ann and family, and to many many of her grandkids events. She loved everyone around her and was always there for a hug.

Marianne will be sorely missed by her husband Larry Groen; daughters Megan (Brandon) Jewell, Kelsey (Dan) Ries, Pam (Brian) Arends; grandchildren Madyson, Brayden, and Bentley Jewell, Logan DeVries, Kaley (Rick) Klein, Makenna and Connor Arends; mother Kathryn Klaahsen; brothers Larry(Mary Jane) Klaahsen, Steve (Ann) Klaahsen, Curt (Margo) Klaahsen, and many nieces and nephews that she delighted in. She was welcomed into heaven by her daughter Jessica, her dad Kenneth Klaahsen, and many aunts and uncles. What a Christmas in heaven.
