Marilyn "Sis" Agnes Hedges

     Marilyn “Sis” Hedges age 89, of Sibley, Iowa died Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Zion Lutheran Church rural Ocheyedan, IA, with Reverend Richard Milbrandt officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.

     Visitation will be Friday, October 21^st with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home – Andringa Funeral Chapel of Ocheyedan.

     Marilyn Agnes Hedges was born on July 20, 1933, in Ocheyedan, IA, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Bell) Brehmer. She grew up in Ocheyedan and later graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1951.

     On April 27, 1953, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lawrence Hedges in Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in Ocheyedan, IA, and to this union five children were born, Susan, Michael, Sandy, Julie, and Jodell.

     Marilyn worked for several years at Carlson Drug and then Turners Red Owl. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Ocheyedan, and the Ocheyedan American Legion Auxiliary.

     Marilyn and her husband, Lawrence enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and dancing the jitterbug and two-step. They liked to walk, ride bike, and play basketball with their kids and grandkids. Marilyn was a very good underhand free-throw shooter in high school and won a state-sponsored free throw contest. Marilyn and her husband enjoyed watching high school softball games and college basketball on TV. The couple were in a mixed doubles bowling league in Sibley for many years. They traveled with life-long friends, Richard, and Marilyn Hoekstra and later with Lawrence’s sisters and brothers-in-law. The family enjoyed camping in the Black Hills and surrounding area.

     Marilyn moved to the Country View Manor of Sibley in March of 2018, where she passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

     Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Susan (Bruce) Brockshus of Ocheyedan, IA, Michael Hedges of Sioux Falls, SD, Sandy (Brad) Jensen of Sibley, IA, Julie (Verlyn) Vander Veen of Spirit Lake, IA, and Jodell (Brian) Almberg of Worthington, MN; ten grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Marlys Brehmer of Ocheyedan, IA, Lavonne Hansen of Spirit Lake, IA, Mary Lou (Harold) Youngdahl of Milford, IA, and Joyce (Ervin) Krull of Spirit Lake, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry, and Ruth Brehmer; husband, Lawrence of 62 years; two brothers, Donald Brehmer and Curtis Brehmer; nephew, Brian Brehmer; two brothers-in-law, Robert Hansen and Verle Bahde; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Brehmer and Mavis Bahde.
