Marjean Sauer-Stanley

     MarJean Sauer - Stanley age 87 of Chancellor, SD, formerly of Larchwood, Iowa died Friday, December 29, 2023, at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD. 

     A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 13th at the George Boom Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Hayes officiating. 

     A private family burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery. 

     MarJean Sauer-Stanley was born October 29, 1936, in Chancellor, South Dakota, the daughter of Cassius and Margaret (Tellinghuisen) Dannen. She attended Chancellor community schools and graduated. She continued her education at General Beadle College in Madison, SD, receiving her teacher’s certificate.   

     She taught for 2 years in a country school near Lennox, SD. She was united in marriage to John Sauer on February 22, 1956, in Lennox, SD. They moved to a farm northwest of Larchwood and began to farm. Nine children were born to this union. Over the years she lived in various communities, including Larchwood, Sioux Falls, SD, Lennox, SD and Chancellor, SD. Most of her years were spent in Larchwood and Lennox. She worked as a waitress and at a local Hotel. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Larchwood. She enjoyed the outdoors, and volunteering at the Faith Temple Food Giveaway in Sioux Falls, SD.   

      On July 10, 2010, MarJean married Calvin Stanley and they made their home in Chancellor, SD. Calvin passed away on May 8, 2017. In September of 2020, MarJean entered the Bethany Home in Brandon, SD due to failing health. She remained there until her passing, December 29, 2023.   

     She is survived by her nine children, DiAnn Burwell, Dawn Daniels, both of Sioux Falls, SD, Debra Grant of Winter Haven, FL, Dixie (Gordon) Larson of Tea, SD, Michael (Debbie) Sauer of Sioux Falls, SD, Denise (Sukarno) McPherson of Rineyville KY, James (Towanda) Sauer of Santee, CA, Darla (Vincent) Fuhs of Sioux Falls, SD and Darci (Darrin) TeBeest, of El Mirage,  AZ; three step children, Brian (Tammie) Stanley, Sarah (Steve) Richardson and Liz (Jim) Senn; 21 grandchildren; three brothers, Leo (Linda) Dannen, Leon Dannen, Eugene (Dale) Dannen; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Cassius and Margaret Dannen; 1st husband, John Sauer; and 2nd husband, Calvin Stanley; a brother, Gary (Marjo) Dannen and a son-in-law, William Grant.
