     Marjorie Kannegieter, age 88 of Sibley, IA, formerly of Little Rock passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.

     A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA, with Reverend John Pea officiating.  We are planning on streaming the service but if stream doesn’t work a recording will be uploaded to our website to watch later after the service.

     There was a private family graveside service held on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Zoar Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

     Marjorie Lou (Wynia) Kannegieter was born on September 12, 1931 in O’Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Tena (Wilkens) Wynia. She grew up in the Ashton area and graduated from the Ashton Public School in 1950.

     Marjorie was united in marriage to John Jr. Kannegieter on May 31, 1952 in Yuma, AZ. The couple moved to a farm near George, IA where they farmed for twenty years. To this union eight children were born, Bruce, Pamela, Norine, Denice, James, Debora, Steven and Becky.

     Before she was married Marjorie worked as a waitress for two years at the Red Owl lunch counter in Worthington, MN and after farming for a time with her husband, they purchased JR’s Café and Bar in 1975 and operated that business for ten years. After they sold the café Marjorie worked in the lunchroom at the school in Little Rock until her retirement at age 62. The most important part of Marjorie’s life was family, neighbors and friends.

     She enjoyed baking bread and pies as well as reading, crafts and sewing, baby blankets and quilts were her favorites. She was a long-time member of the Zoar Presbyterian church of rural George and active in the Loyal Women’s Circle. She enjoyed singing in the church choir.

     Marjorie is survived by six children, Pamela (Dale) Nerby of Siren, WI; Norine (Leland) Kruse of George, IA; James (Linda) Kannegieter of Little Rock, IA; Deb (Dan) Kruse of Rock Rapids, IA; Steven (Jackie) Kannegieter of Sibley, IA and Becky (Mike) Bergquist of Bemidji, MN; Twelve grandchildren: Shawn, Stephanie, Jon, Rachel, Kathy, Carrie, Austin, Geoffrey, Joshua, Justina, Jacob and Madison; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Wynia; sister, Dorothy Seiben; sister-in-law Marie Pomerenke and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Tena Wynia; her husband JR. in 2003; Daughter Denice in 1967; son Bruce in 2018; granddaughter, Magali in 2009; grandson, Christopher in 2012.
