     Marlene Slykhuis age 89 of Sibley, Iowa formerly of Ashton, Iowa died Friday, March 3, 2023 at Country View Manor in Sibley.

          Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Ashton Bible Church in with Pastor Dan Kunnari, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery at Ashton.

     Visitation will be Monday, March 6^th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ashton Bible Church.

     Marlene Slykhuis was born February 22, 1934, at the Van Loh family farm in rural Ashton, Iowa, the daughter of Jans and Fenna (Luitjens) Van Loh.  She grew up near Ashton with her six siblings and attended Ashton High school and continued her education at Northwestern College, where she earned her teaching degree.

     On December 27, 1954 Marlene was united in marriage to Dale Slykhuis at the Presbyterian Church in Ashton.    Marlene was a teacher for a couple of years before her first child was born.  Marlene and Dale were blessed with four children.  After her children were older Marlene went to work at the Sibley Community School, where she was a secretary for the guidance counselor for the remainder of her career. 

     Marlene and Dale were committed to the mission of the Ashton Bible Church and were always willing to serve wherever they were needed.  She enjoyed quilting, puzzles, cross stitching, and cooking for her family and friends. 

     Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeff (Nora) Slykhuis of Custer, SD, Daryl (Kay) Slykhuis of Sioux Falls, SD, and Alan (Patty) Slykhuis of Ashton, IA; twelve grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Jans and Fenna; husband, Dale; daughter, Marcia; siblings, Johanna Kraft, Katie Rensink, John Van Loh, Fred Van Loh, Henrietta Van Loh and Reynold Van Loh.
