     Marlys Duin, age 86 of George, IA died Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the George Good Samaritan Society.

     Private Family Funeral service will be Friday, August 14^th at Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA, with Rev. John Pea officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

     Public visitation will be Thursday, August 13^th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. The Duin family will not be present.

     Social distancing will be followed and masks are encouraged.

     Marlys Jane Duin was born November 13, 1933, on a farm near George, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Martha (Klingenberg) Harms. She was raised in the George area and graduated from George High School. After her education she worked as a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. Marlys was united in marriage to Edwin R. Duin on August 25, 1954, at Hope Reformed Church, southwest of George. Marlys and Ed farmed for many years before retiring and moving into George. She taught Sunday school and was active with the Women’s Circle. She was a member of the Jack Sauter Post No. 404 American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, knitting and gardening. Marlys and Ed traveled on several bus trips to many states. Two highlights of their journeys were Alaska and Germany. On October 16, 2010, Marlys’s husband Ed died. She spent the last 10 years in skilled care nursing facilities until her death, this past Tuesday, August 11, 2020, where she died at the age of 86.

     Marlys is survived by her three children, Rosemary and her husband, Tim Vanden Brink of George, IA; Donald and his wife, Char Duin of Sheldon, IA and Diane and her husband, Verlyn Bouma of George, IA; five grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Ari Ubbinga of George, IA; Nathan Ubbinga of White Bear Lake, MN, Ashley Feucht of George, IA; Jon Duin of Sheldon, IA; along with 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Elaine Riggelman of Wixom, MI; Lois Jurrens of George, IA; Clarice Jurrens of Lakeport, CA; Gertrude (Mike) Gonzalez of Anderson, TX; Mary (Seth) Hock of Columbus, OH; two sisters-in-law, Carol Harms of Sherwood, AK and Barb Duin of Sioux Falls, SD; along with several nieces, nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Martha Harms; brother, Eugene Harms and her husband of 56 years, Edwin R. Duin.
