Marvin Wayne Kanengieter was born to John and Rose Kanengieter on July 22, 1925, in Bigelow, Minnesota. He grew up on a family farm in the Little Rock area with his three older siblings: Johnny, Ralph, and Anna Mae (Kruse).
Marv attended Little Rock schools, where he found the love of his life, Helene Mulder. After graduation, he was drafted in the US Army. In 1945, after several hospitalizations, he received an honorable medical discharge.
Marv and Helene were married on June 19, 1945. They spent their first year of marriage farming, until they felt a clear call to full-time pastoral ministry. His passion for the Word of God and sharing that with others led him to Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, MN, graduating in 1949.
He began his ministry in 1950 and for the next forty-three years served in four different churches across Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan. Marv also worked in Christian literature at Baptist Publications and served as Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Baptist Conference in Colorado. He loved shepherding others and was a constant source of encouragement to those around him.
Marv’s humor, kindness, creativity, faith, leadership, and welcoming spirit, reminded us to live a life of purpose and service.
On November 18, 2021, Marv peacefully passed into Glory, surrounded by his family. At age 96, he leaves behind his five children: Rosalie (Reeves), Evonne, Shari (Ardill), Marla (Wildeson) and John, 7 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife Helene on February 29, 2010.
