Mary Davelaar age 89 of Sibley, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley, Iowa.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM, Wednesday April 20, 2022, at Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa with Pastor Ben Wiersma officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Mary Joan Davelaar was born January 2, 1933, at home in Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Marie (De Boom) Vande Kamp. She attended country school until the 8th grade. On November 25, 1955 Mary was united in marriage to Henry John Davelaar at the Doon Christian Reformed Church. They lived near Sioux Center until moving to a farm near Bigelow, Minnesota in 1957. Mary and Henry were blessed with three children, Leanne, Garold, and Wanda. After her children were grown, Mary worked for various employers including: South Shore Care Center, Green Garden Center and Jazz’s Bridal in Worthington, Minnesota. The couple retired and moved to Sibley, Iowa in 1996.
Mary was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, where she was thankful to be part of such a caring church family. She volunteered for several years at New Beginnings in Sibley with her husband, Henry. She enjoyed sewing, having her daily cappuccino, reading, spending time with her family, and loved taking care of her grandchildren when they were young. She also enjoyed traveling and trips to Branson after retirement.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Henry; children, Leanne (Stephen) Van Kley of Sibley, IA, Garold (Susan) Davelaar of Luverne, MN, Wanda (Kevin) Houtsma of Sioux Falls, SD; 8 grandchildren, Kelli (Eric) Echter, Joshua (Angela) Van Kley, Matthew (Rachel) Davelaar, Rachel (Colin) Attema, Sarah (Andy) Aukes, Mary (Craig) Van Drunen, Michael (Shelly) Houtsma and Jared (Anne) Houtsma; 18 great grandchildren; siblings, Jeanne Koel of Rock Rapids, IA, Alwayne (Freddy) Vande Kamp of Hospers, IA and Lyle (Joan) Vande Kamp of Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law, Joleen Vermeer of Sioux Center, IA and Arlis Vande Kamp of George, IA; along with extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Marie; stepmother Lyda, and brothers, Charles and Gary Vande Kamp.
