Mary Elizabeth Dolphin

Rock Rapids, IA

     Mary Dolphin age 91, of Rock Rapids, IA died quietly in her sleep early morning Sunday, July 21, 2019, at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 26^th at the Forster Community Building of Rock Rapids. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 25^th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the family present at Jurrens funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

     Mary Elizabeth Dolphin was born March 22, 1928 to Gerritt and Etta (DeBoer) Harthorn near Inwood, Iowa. Mary grew up near rural Inwood and Rock Rapids area.

     Mary was united in marriage to Derald Silvey on November 20, 1947 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. To this union were born 2 children, Sandra and Loren.

     Derald and Mary lived and farmed at rural Linden, Iowa for approximately 3.5 years. They moved to the rural Rock Rapids area in 1955. The couple enjoyed twenty years together, before Derald’s sudden death in 1967.

     Mary continued farming with the help of her family after Derald’s death until 1973, when she was united in marriage to Gerald Dolphin. (June 29) Gerald and Mary continued to live on the farm and work the land together until moving to town in 1983.

     Gerald passed away in 2007.

     Mary loved to cook and bake, then share with everyone. She also loved talking about her love for God and sharing her home with the Workers. She always had time to stop and befriend others. She treasured spending time with her family who she loved dearly. Mary had a smile for everyone.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her children Sandra (Rod) Ferguson of Milford, IA, and Loren (Linda) Silvey of Rock Rapids; three grandchildren, Chane Patten, Amanda Eicher and Dana Scholten; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Curtis Harthorn of Rock Rapids, IA. Nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerritt and Etta; first husband, Derald Silvey; second husband, Gerald Dolphin; sisters, Tillie Keveligan, Gladys De Jonge; and great grandson, Kade Scholten.
