Mary Rose Hindt

     Mary Hindt, age 93 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Rock Rapids, passed away on November 16, 2020.

     A memorial mass will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, September 24, 2021, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with Fr. Sunny Dominic officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Mary Rose was born to Leo and Leona (Schrum) Babl of Carroll, Iowa on Oct. 22, 1928, their third child and only daughter. The family moved to Rock Rapids in 1930, where she graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1946. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and taught 4th grade for two years in Humboldt, Iowa.

     In 1949, she married Jim White, who was the music teacher in Rock Rapids. They moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, in 1954, where Jim again taught music and she gave piano lessons. In 1965, she and the kids returned to Rock Rapids. She worked at DGR for 18 years and loved her job. She played the organ at church every Sunday and was a familiar sight riding her bike around town.  

     In 1984, she married fellow RRHS graduate Chuck Hindt and moved to Cupertino, Calif. They had many happy years together entertaining visitors and traveling the world. After Chuck's death in 2011, she again moved back to her hometown, until ill health necessitated a move to assisted living in Sioux Falls. She was a resident at the Good Samaritan Center there for the last few years.

     Mary Rose was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers (Rich, Bob, Wally), two husbands, and many relatives and friends.

     She is survived by her children: Jeff (Marlene) White in San Antonio, Tex.; Cathy Wubbena of Sioux Falls; Melanie White of Seattle, Wash., and Robert White of Bismarck, ND, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
