     Melinda Waagmeester age 59 of Rock Rapids, IA died on May 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.  

     A memorial service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 24th at The Rock Community Church of Rock Rapids, IA, with Pastor Travis Remme officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Visitation will be Thursday, May 23rd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, with family present, at The Rock Community Church of Rock Rapids.

     Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

     Melinda Waagmeester was born on November 23, 1964, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon and June (Stewart) Waagmeester. She attended Central Lyon School District and graduated in 1983. She continued her education at The Fashion & Arts Institute of Dallas, in Omaha, NE and received her Art Degree and Public Relations Degree. She worked at the Red Lion Hotel in Omaha and enjoyed seeing all the famous people performing in town. In the early 90’s she worked at First National Bank as a senior accountant specialist. She then began working at Gateway Computer Manufacturing in North Sioux City, IA for several years, as an assistant sales executive.

     She was a lifelong member of the of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. Her best companion was Sundance, a Son Conure parrot. She put money down on his egg and they were together for 28 years. Melinda also loved Rock & Roll music, obsessed with the band, Led Zepplin, and others. She enjoyed attending concerts, visiting with people, hiking, and being out in nature. She was a very giving, loving and loyal friend.

     She is survived by her brother, Jerry Waagmeester; sister, Lori (Dan) Kahl; nephews, James Minor, Nick Waagmeester; and nieces, Josi Minor and Courtney Madsen.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and June Waagmeester; brother, James (Chip) Waagmeester; and a sister, Julie Heaton.
