Sibley, IA Michael James “Jim” Mayer age 47 of Sibley, IA, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Mercy Health / St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, OH. A celebration of life service will take place at 5:30 PM, Friday evening, May 18th at the United Methodist Church in Harris, IA, with Pastor Steve Swenson and Pastor Emmanuel T. Naweji officiating. Inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, rural Harris, IA. Visitation will be Friday, May 18th from 4:30 until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church in Harris, IA. Michael James “Jim” Mayer was born June 18, 1970 in Sibley, Iowa, the son of John Milo “Mike” and Mary Louise (McClain) Mayer. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Sibley. He attended school in Sibley and was active in many sports, excelling and earning medals in track and basketball. Jim graduated in 1988. Jim was united in marriage to Michelle King on May 23, 1992 and later divorced on July 2, 2007. From this union they were blessed with three sons, Cody, Trevor and Isaac. He worked at the Bag Company in Sibley for 18 plus years. Jim loved his family and loved to camp and fish. He enjoyed many family fishing trips to Canada, from childhood to fatherhood, and was the most proficient wild blueberry picker of all. He also enjoyed attending all his son’s middle school sporting activities and Trevor’s high school football games. Jim was very active in golf and bowling and enjoyed friends and family at our neighborhood bonfires. His dad and mom are enjoying the new front and back decking and garage work bench that he built. Jim was carried in the arms of an angel to Heaven on May 8th at Mercy Health/Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, OH. Remembering him in love are his parents, Mike and Mary of Sibley, IA; his three sons, Cody, Trevor and Isaac; his brother, Monty (Rachele) Mayer; his sisters, Shelly (Don) Kass and Mindy (Tim) Herrmann; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lee and Doris McClain and paternal grandparents, John and Elinor Mayer; uncle, Jim McClain; and aunt, Dorothy Anderson.
