Michael Munns

     Mike Munns, age 75 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, December 2 nd at Holy Name Catholic Church of Rock Rapids, IA, with Fr. Sunny Dominic as celebrant.

     Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be Sunday, December 1 st , from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with the family present, at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

  In lieu of flower memorials may be directed to the Lyon County Fair Board Association.

  Michael “Mike” Munns was born on March 24, 1949, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Gerald F. and Isabelle A. (Kellihan) Munns.  He was raised on a family farm southeast of Rock Rapids and attended Rock Township School until the 5th grade.  He then attended Central Lyon Community Schools, graduating in 1967.  He continued his education at Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls.  He returned home to help with the family farm and raised crops and livestock for the next 45 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. Member of the Knights of Columbus #12674 and served as usher for weekend mass. He also was an active member of the Lyon County Fair Board Association, Lyon County Pork Producers and the Rock Rapids Jaycees. Served as Rock Township Clerk for many years and volunteered at the Rock Rapids Speedway. He was an avid bowler and in his younger years played fast pitch softball in Rock Rapids and Ellsworth.  On Saturday, November 9, Mike was unexpectedly admitted to the ICU at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was placed on hospice care on Friday, November 22 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD and remained there until this past Sunday, November 24, 2024, where he died at the age of 75.

     He is survived by a sister, Eileen (Tim) Peters of Madison, SD; brother-in-law, Steve Groves of Larchwood, IA; seven nieces and nephews, Shawn Munns, Erin (Monte) Johanning, Mike (Beth) Payne, Tara (Phil) Mueller, Caitlin Payne, Kara (Alan) Chau and Hailey (Brandon) McRae; and many other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Isabelle Munns; a sister, Peggy Groves; a brother, Pat Munns; and brother-in-law, Mark Payne.
