Mildred Kathleen was born April 22nd, 1935 in Rock Rapids, IA, the daughter of Mike and Kate (Cannegieter) Harmsen. She grew up in Rock Rapids and was the youngest of ten kids. Millie attended Christian school in Rock Rapids through the eighth grade, then went to work with her brother Jim at the bakery. On April 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Dale Katt at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. The couple lived in town for a time, while Millie worked at the lampshade factory, then moved to a farm East of town. In 1973, they moved to their farm West of town and farmed for 34 years. They moved back to town in 2007. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Martha Circle Bible Study. Millie loved music, especially the Staltler brothers, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also treasured her nieces and nephews.
