Norma Colleen (Tremmel) Niichel was born February 13, 1933, the daughter of John (Jack) and Helen Tremmel. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Niichel on January 9, 1952. They were married 48 years until his death in 2000.
Norma, along with Don, raised a family of six children on a farm between Ashton and Sheldon, which would be their home for 30 plus years. She was a devoted wife and mother, and alongside her husband, built a wonderful life for their family. She was known as a hard-working woman, who took great pride in her family, home and yard.
It would be a mistake to assume Norma lost her battle with RA, because she never gave up. No matter how tough things got, she remained resolute. And where others might have surrendered, she endured. Norma’s tenacity taught her family and friends the power of resilience and perseverance.
Those left to cherish Norma’s memory include her children, Jerry (Shelli) Niichel of Sanborn, IA, Donita (Dan) Burrows of Tucson, AZ, Deb (Mike) Hatting of Ashton, IA, Denise (Randy) Kohn of Sheldon, IA, Jim (Nancy) Niichel of Orange City, IA, and Steve Niichel of Lees Summit, MO; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister Delma Ball; brother-in-law, Bill Imhoff; sisters-in-law, Pam Clauson, Marilyn Fisher, and Dorothy Sprague; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Jack and Helen Tremmel; brother, Ronald Tremmel; sister, Donna Imhoff; son-in-law, Kimbal Rook; and great grandson, Matthew Anderson.
Norma may be gone from our sight, but never our memories, and she may be gone from our touch, but never our hearts.
