Orville Marvin De Boer

Rock Rapids, Iowa 

     Orville De Boer, age 87, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, December 18, 2023, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

      Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, IA, with Reverend Scott Van Ravenswaay officiating.  Bethel Reformed Livestream Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

     Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

     Arrangements are in the care of the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA.

     Orville Marvin De Boer was born on July 8, 1936, on his family’s farm in Lyon County Iowa to Otto and Martha (Ohling) De Boer.  He attended country school.

     On July 8, 1958, he married (Henrietta) Joyce Verburg and they began farming southeast of Ellsworth, MN.  To this union four children were born, Sharon, Cynthia, Marvin, and Karla.

     Orville was a lifelong member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Little Rock, IA.  He served as an Elder and Deacon at various times.

     In May of 2021, Orville and Joyce moved to Rock Rapids, IA.

     Orville is survived by his wife (Henrietta) Joyce Verburg De Boer; daughters, Sharon Raymond, Cynthia (Joe) Runia, son, Marvin (Shari) De Boer, and daughter, Karla (Mike) Ruby; eleven grandchildren, John (Sarah) Raymond, Ann Raymond, Robert (Sally) Runia, Heather (Brian) Burch, Samone (Aaron) Grubb, Michael (Amanda) Runia, Roger (Elana) De Boer, Eric De Boer, Marni De Boer (Spenser Kalass), Brandon (Anny) Ruby, Trevor Ruby; and seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Drenkow; sister-in-law, Faye De Boer; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto, and Martha De Boer; sister, Jeanette; brother, Edward; sister-in-law, Shirley (Mrs. Edward De Boer); two brothers-in-law, Lammert Popkes and Ronald Drenkow; son-in-law, Dan Raymond; and granddaughter, Angela Ruby.
