She had 2 sisters, Hattie and Mary. As she grew up, she went to country school. Later she attended high school in George and graduated in 1942. During high school she met a very handsome neighbor boy Hilbert Van Westen. Hilbert was drafted to the Air Force and moved to Denver. In January 1945, Pearl boarded a train and went to Denver, Colorado to marry her sweetheart. In 1947, Hilbert was discharged from the service. Hilbert and Pearl then moved back to Iowa where they rented a farm, which they later purchased. She worked alongside Hilbert with farm work and chores. Pearl did a lot of cooking and baking to feed the men that were there to help with the field work. They enjoyed having picnics with neighbors, family and friends. Pearl had a passion for sewing, especially sewing dresses for the girls. Time went by and Hilbert passed away in February 1984. She stayed on the farm but moved into the trailer house. Along came Dean DeBooy and they traveled to Hawaii and got married December 1990. They enjoyed going to the lake, auctions and Florida. Then, Dean passed away January 2006.
