Peggy Roelfs age 61 of Sibley, Iowa died unexpectedly, Monday, June 22, 2020 at her home in Sibley.
Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Friday, June 26th at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Steve Swenson officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Friday, June 26th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the United Methodist Church of Sibley, with the family present. Social distancing guidelines will be in place for both the visitation and the funeral service.
Peggy Faye Roelfs was born on December 11, 1958 in Worthington, Minnesota, the daughter of Leonard and Delores (Grubaugh) Prins. She was raised in Worthington and Sibley area. She attended Sibley Community School and graduated in 1977 from Sibley High School.
After high school Peggy went to Owatonna, MN and lived there for a short time, moving back to Sibley. Peggy was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Michelle in 1978. In 1978 she began working at Campbells Soup in Worthington and worked there until the closure in 1997. In 1980 she married Roland Ray Roelfs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA. They were divorced after 11 years of marriage. In 1989 she met Dean Spillman and together they lived in Worthington until 2014, when they moved to Sibley, IA.
In 1997 Peggy suffered a stroke which was the beginning of her decline in health. In 2010 she was also was diagnosed with a hereditary disease called Familial Spastic Paraparesis.
Peggy loved to collect all kinds of Knick knacks, hummingbirds, and enjoyed traveling places to collect Steiff Bears other highly collectable stuffed bears. She also enjoyed plastic canvas, cross stitch, and adult coloring books. She enjoyed cooking and baking especially with the new recipes she discovered. Peggy loved the camping trips with Dean to Wisconsin Dells and the family trip to Canada. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with her family, most of all her grandson, Matthew, and cat named “Kitty”.
She is survived by her special companion, Dean Spillman of Sibley, IA; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Vander Pol of Sibley, IA; three step-children, Theresa Spillman, Michael Spillman and Jennifer Patterson, all of Philadelphia, PA; ten grandchildren, Brandon and Matthew Roelfs, Mickey, Alexis, and Aiden Taylor, Devynn, Deinn, and Davyen Spillman, Delano and Angelic Cortez; special great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Abbie, Hannah, Toby, Jaylee Prins and Kayne Julius; two brothers, Robert (Vicky) Prins of Sibley, IA and Loren (Shala) Prins of Willmont, MN; niece and nephews, Jeffrey, Adam, AJ, Jessica and Jacob Prins; and several other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Delores Prins; grandparents, Bud and Lorriane Grubaugh and Henry and Jennie Prins.
