Rev. Dean Shelly

     Rev. Dean Shelly age 80 of Rock Rapids, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at his home.

     Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 21^st at First Baptist Church rural George, IA, with Pastor Jesse Sternke officiating.

     Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

     Visitation will be Sunday, November 20^th from 2:00 to 6:00, with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

     Oris “Dean” Shelly was born September 27, 1942, to Wiler and Clara (Totten) Shelly in Wooster, Ohio. Dean was raised in a Christian home, where church was an important part of their family life.

He accepted Jesus Christ into his heart and said to Him, he would go where He wanted him to go. After encouragement from his pastor, Dean preached in front of his home congregation. Dean graduated from high school and continued his education at Bryan College graduating in 1965 and entered Winebrenner Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 1970.

     He began working in the Ohio and Pennsylvania area, where he served as an administrator for a nursing home and a children’s home. He then moved to Iowa to preach His word. He was blessed with two sons, Dave, and Tim. Then God brought Donna DeBoer into Dean’s life, and they were married on May 4, 1997, in Ireton, Iowa. Together they shared God’s love whether it was with a ladies’ gathering or working with the children. Donna’s sons, Doug, Dan, and Jon accepted Dean as part of the family. Dean was blessed with twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

     Dean is survived by his wife, Donna Shelly of Rock Rapids, IA; two sons, Dave (wife Debbie) Shelly and Tim (wife Chancey) Shelly; two grandsons, Brandon, and Dylan Shelly; and granddaughter due in December; nieces and nephews, Shelly (husband Larry) Spade, Cheryl Fields, Bob (wife Brenda) Walters and Mary Tipton; and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiler and Clara Shelly; a sister, Patricia Walters; and an infant brother, Bobby Shelly.
