Richard Graber age 89 of Sibley, Iowa died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Country View Manor in Sibley.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25th at the First Presbyterian in Sibley, IA with Reverend Terry Simm, officiating. Family and friends will gather for burial in the Wheatland Cemetery rural Breda, IA at 3:30 p.m.
Visitation will be Saturday May 25th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.
The Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial maybe directed to the Sibley First Presbyterian Memorial Fund or the Wheatland Cemetery of Breda, IA.
Richard Elmer Graber was born to Elmer and Annette (Von Glan) on September 16, 1929. He was baptized on December 29, 1929 at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church by Rev. C. Walter and was also later confirmed by Rev. Schmidt at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church, Breda, Iowa. Richard was 89 years old when he passed away at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.
Richard attended the first eight grades of school at a rural school in Carroll County. Then he attended the Wall Lake High School graduating May 20th, 1947.
Richard worked on the family farm followed graduation. On January 1st, 1951, he married Betty (Auen) Graber at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake by Pastor Christiansen. He continued working on the family farm until drafted into the Marine Corps in October 3rd, 1951. He was stationed in San Diego, California, then was sent to Korea and was discharged October 3rd, 1953. When Richard returned home, he continued his career in farming.
Richard served numerous years on the Carroll County Farm Bureau Board, dug graves at the Wheatland Presbyterian Cemetery for fifty years, and was a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. He was busy with raising hogs, cattle and was also a dairy farmer for many years. Richard retired in 1994. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, keeping a journal of daily activities, and playing cards with family, friends and neighbors.
Four children were born to Richard and Betty: Neil, Peggy, Keith, and Tracy. They raised the four children on a farm about a mile from the Wheatland Church, living there until September 1st, 2009 when they moved to Sibley, Iowa. Richard became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley.
Surviving members of his family are; Betty, wife for 68 years, Neil Graber (Sue) of West Des Moines, Peggy Blome (Dallas) of Fenton, Mo., Keith Graber (Linda) of Cedar Falls, and Tracy Van Diepen (John Jr.) of Ocheyedan, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, one brother, Reas (Nancy) of Fort Meyers, Florida.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Elmer and Annette Graber of Breda, a grandson, Alex Graber of Cedar Falls, and a brother, Delbert Graber, and sister-in-law Donna of Wall Lake.
