Sibley, IA
Richard Thursby, age 51 of Sibley, Iowa died Friday, October 23, 2020 at his home in Sibley.
Richard William Thursby was born January 14, 1969, the son of Jon Valleau and Lauren Thursby, in New York. He was raised by his mother and Mike Issel, who he considered his father. He grew up in California and called several places including Oregon, Idaho, Iowa, Washington, and Arizona home. He worked construction most of his life until he became disabled. He enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows, and spending time with his sidekick, his dog Missy. Richard was loved by many and touched the hearts of many in his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him.
His granddaughter Bella learned first aid to help Papa when needed (and loved it).
His granddaughter Braelyn helped Papa in the end with taking Missy outside and feeding Missy, as well as watching dinosaur and animal shows with Papa.
His granddaughter Summer reminded Richard of his mother reborn again with her feisty energetic, does not take funny business from anyone spirit. Papa was the one who was there for Summer’s birth, the day she was born, and they had always had a strong connection as their personalities are so much alike, both stubborn and strong willed, yet a heart of gold underneath all of the stubborn.
His granddaughter Harper loved to help Papa pick up things he could not (as Papa dropped things a lot due to his health) and get Papa his drinks. Harper always loved to steal his walker when he was not looking. They would take naps together a few days a week as they cuddled together watching TV in his room.
He is survived by his family, daughter, Merissa Dillard (Mark Stone) of Sibley, IA and their children, Bella, Braelyn, Summer, and Harper; stepfather Mike Issel; sister, Leesa Koskela; brothers, Teddy Burgess and James Robertson; daughter Brandy Macedo of California, along with her 3 children; and many extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lauren Thursby.
