     Rick Braby age 64 of Sibley, Iowa died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, due to complications of lung cancer.

     Funeral service will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley, IA, with Reverend Terry Simm officiating.    

     Burial will be Saturday, August 15th with family and friends gathering at the Rosehill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa at 2:00 p.m., with committal service starting at 2:30 p.m.

     Visitation will be Thursday, August 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, Iowa.

     Ricky Wray Braby was born on June 5, 1956 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to James Wray and Bettie Ann (Reynard) Braby. He graduated from Lamoni High School in 1974, Rick went on to attend Graceland College in Lamoni. During his high school and college years, Rick played and excelled in many sports including football, basketball, golf, and baseball. In addition, he also played the drums.

     Rick married Charlotte Ann Fulton on September 25, 1979, in Lamoni, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Erica Rae Braby and Trenton Wray Braby.

     During his long teaching career at Central Decatur, Woodbury Central and Sibley-Ocheyedan, Rick taught many subjects and coached many sports. He loved teaching and coaching. Rick had that special ability to make learning enjoyable and loved his students. He was well known for his secret motivator-mints!

     Rick considered his golfing buddies, “his family”. He loved to teach, coach, and play the game of golf.

     Rick enjoyed coaching all ages for junior golfers to his varsity golfers. He loved playing in tournaments as well.

     Some memorable moments for Rick included rides home after golf meets, winning the state tournament before retiring, and working with his former student and golfer, Lance Glade, on the greens at the Sibley Golf Course.

     Left to cherish his memory is Charlotte; son, Trent; his beloved dog and cruising partner, Spartacus; brother, Tim Braby of California; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Diane Fulton; and nieces and nephews, Jamid and Mallory Braby, and Chelsea and Kyle Fulton. He also has other special relatives including: Jack Braby of California; Chuck Braby of Lamoni, Iowa; Mike and Vicky Green of Ohio, Joe and Gail Rosicker of California, Beth and Sara Bukky of Ohio, Keith Keifer of Ohio, and Alicia Repko of Ohio. His students, friends and golf buddies were also considered family.

     Rick was preceded in death by his daughter, Erica Rae; his parents, James and Bettie Braby; his aunt, Kay Reynard; and cousin, Logan Repko.
