Robert “Jack” Foley age 80, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Sibley, IA died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Memorial North Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO.
Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, IA with Fr. Siby Punnoose as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery at Sibley, IA, with military honors by the George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324 and the William F. Allard VFW Post No. 7373.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday, October 8th.
Robert J. Foley was born on August 25, 1941 in Sibley, IA, the son of William Elmer and Goldie Mary (Guertin) Foley. He grew up in Sibley and attended school there. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on November 18, 1959 and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1989.
On December 28, 1959, Jack was united in marriage to Judy Gregg.
Jack did his Basic Training at Lackland Airforce Base in Texas. After Basic Training as an Airman 1st Class his future military assignments sent him to places like Kessler, Mississippi, Sam Sun Turkey, Offutt in Omaha, Nebraska, four years at Kagnew Station in Asmara at the time Ethiopia and Nellis in Nevada. While stationed at Williams in Arizona he earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University in 1972. He was commissioned as an officer his assignments had him going to Mountain Home in Idaho, Rhein-Main Germany, a Recruiting Officer in Souix Falls, South Dakota, Dyess, Texas, Yokota Japan, then to Hickam Air Base in Hawii where he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Centeral Michigan University in 1986. His military education consisted of Air command and Staff College in 1976, Squadron Officer School in 1977, and Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1984. He retired from the military after thirty years in 1989 as a Major in the United States Air Force. His decorations consisted of an Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal. After retirement he worked a few different jobs and for the final fifteen years of his working career he worked for Avis-Budget. Jack was a very generious man who gave to many charities throughout his life and he loved to go bowling.
Jack is survived by his wife, Judy Foley of Colorado Springs, CO, six children, Dawn (David) Huisenga of Ashton, IA, Suzyn (Kirk) Purdy of Sacramento, CA, Kim Foley (Liz Laffery) of Lopez Island, WA, Denise (Danny) Durham of Colorado Springs, CO, Paul (Becci) Foley of Souix Falls, SD, and Crystal (Cody) Harred of Bulverde, TX; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Goldie Foley; three brothers, Burdette, Roger, and Donald Foley; four sisters, Lorraine Dresser, Kathleen (Pete) Dwiggins, Beverly Klosterman and Patricia Windes.
