     Robert Zonnefeld age 89, of Sibley died Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, IA.

     Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26^th, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley with the family present.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27th, at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, IA with Pastor Ben Wiersma, officiating. Burial will be in the Roseland Cemetery at Sanborn, IA.

     Robert Milton Zonnefeld was born March 23, 1933, the son of Garrett and Jennie (Bakker) Zonnefeld near Sanborn, Iowa.  He grew up near Sanborn and attended Sanborn Christian before graduating from Western Christian in 1950.  Bob served in the United States Army from 1953, to 1955.

     On August 16, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Esther Van Veldhuizen in Sanborn, Iowa.  To this union, two children were born, Gordon and Norma.  They made their home in Sibley, Iowa.  Bob worked for 1^st National Bank until 1983 when he began working for IDS as a financial planner.  He retired on December 31, 2005, after fifty years in the financial industry.  Bob moved to Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in 2017.

     He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley where he served as an elder and deacon.  He was a treasurer of the Sibley Public School for 20 years as well as treasurer for the Sibley Chamber of Commerce.  He enjoyed visiting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.  Bob loved seeing pictures of and hearing about his great grandchildren—and he always enjoyed chocolate.

     Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Gordon (Connie) Zonnefeld of Sheldon, IA and their children: Carrie (Carl) Van Stryland of  Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (Cassie) Zonnefeld of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Norma (David) Schutte of Rushmore, MN and their children:  Rebecca (Tim) Wellenstein of Centerville, SD, Laura (Andrew) Larson of Rushmore, MN, and Mark (Sydney) Schutte of Rushmore, MN; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Bosma of Shawano WI, and one brother, Garry (Delores) Zonnefeld of Sioux Center IA; Esther's family members, Jeane Van Veldhuizen and Harriet Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn IA, and Marilynn (Dale) De Boer of Sibley, IA; along with many extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Jennie Zonnefeld; wife, Esther, died in 2014 following 58 years of marriage; three brothers-in-law, Henry Gene Van Veldhuizen, Ivan Van Veldhuizen, and Charles Bosma.
