Roger "Buck" Buchholtz

April 20, 1955 — July 7, 2023

Roger (Buck) Dale Buchholtz passed away July 7, 2023 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

Roger (Buck) Dale Buchholtz was born April 20, 1955 in Sibley, Iowa to Albert and Darlene (Kruger) Buchholtz.

He attended Sibley High School where he graduated in 1973. He participated in football, track and field and band.

In September 1973 he started working at Chase Bag, where he worked for 48 years. He retired as a supervisor for Hood Packaging in June 2021.  He lived an active life enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, slow pitch softball, bowling and golf leagues.

He as married to Gail (Noethe) Buchholtz July 1, 1983. They spent 40 wonderful years married and together have three children (Carly, Drew and Meg) and six grandchildren (Dalten, Cambri, Rhett, Berklee, Carson and Chloe).

Buck lived an active life until his illness limited his abilities, and he loved including his family in his hobbies. He loved to hunt and fish with his son, Drew, and his grandchildren. He loved long rides in his Jeep Wrangler, motorcycle and Ram truck. He was a fan of the LA Rams, Minnesota Twins and Iowa State Cyclones.

Even more than he enjoyed sharing the things he loved with his family, he was always there for his family. He was there for all of his kids’ games, dance recitals and band competitions. He was there for all of their milestones in life and was always their shoulder to lean on.

His Grandchildren brought him great joy.  He and his grandchildren enjoyed sleepovers with pancakes for breakfast, watching Svengoolie, rocking in Papa Buck’s chair, giving foot rest rides to Chloe and even playing dinosaurs with Carson. Berklee loved to bake for Grandpa and he loved everything she made. He was their biggest fan and loved to attend Rhett’s trap shooting competitions and all of the kid’s ball games.  He cheered for them and always encouraged them to do their best.

He is survived by: Wife Gail Buchholtz; Son Drew (Chanda) Buchholtz; Daughter Meg (Dalton) Holle; Grandchildren Dalten and Cambri Kreibaum, Rhett and Berklee Buchholtz and Carson and Chloe Holle; Brother Wayne (Pam) Buchholtz and family; Brother Gary (Barb) Buchholtz and family; Sister Carol (Scott) Smidt and family.
