     Ronald D. Boekhout age 78 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, June 11, 2018 at Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN.

     Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 14th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Kathy Sides officiating.

     Burial with full military honors will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be Thursday, June 14th from 12:00 PM until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids.

     Ronald Dale Boekhout was born on November 15, 1939, in Brandt, South Dakota.  He was the son of Johanna (Becker) Boekhout and Henry Boekhout.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Iowa, and attended Little Rock Community School where he graduated in 1958.  After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy where he served over seas and was based in Vallejo, California where he met his wife to be, Bobbie Jane Freeman.  He was united in marriage to Bobbie on February 15, 1962 and was honorably discharged from the Navy on August 20, 1962.    Throughout their early years of marriage, they moved back and forth between California and Iowa, finally deciding to raise their family in Iowa.  Ronnie worked for over 20 years as a supervisor for the Iowa Department of Transportation.  In 1998 he retired from the Department of Transportation and began working part time delivering propane for Modern Home Gas Company.    
     When he was young, he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, shooting trap, and hunting.  Later he enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, watching old Western movies, tinkering in the garage and feeding the birds and squirrels.  He was loving, kind hearted, and he enjoyed laughing and teasing others.  He will be greatly missed.   
     Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bobbie Jane Boekhout; daughter, Laura Lee Boekhout, her daughter, Jenna Christene Boekhout (both of Fort Collins, Colorado); son, Timothy John (wife, Julie) Boekhout and their children, Brandt Nicholas Boekhout and Brecken Nicole Boekhout (all of Rock Rapids, Iowa); sister, Carol Nachtigal (Little Rock, IA); brother-in-law, Martin Freeman (Martinez, California), and other extended family.
     He was proceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna Boekhout; parents-in-law, Loyce and Barney Carlson; brother-in-law, Duane Nachtigal; and other extended family members.
