Ronald John Horn was born on April 2, 1933, on the family farm north of Larchwood, IA, to Harry and Laura (Polzin) Horn. Ron attended country school, graduated from Larchwood High School in 1951, and continued to work on the family farm. He was baptized, confirmed, and a life-long member of the Larchwood United Church of Christ. He was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1955-1957. After receiving his honorable discharge, Ron purchased a black and silver four-door hardtop 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, drove it home from California, and continued to enjoy driving it for many years. Ron was united in marriage to Arla Thielman on August 22, 1964, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This union was blessed with one child, Daniel. Ron and Arla lived in several locations in the Larchwood area before finally settling on the family farm. Ron enjoyed farming alongside his father and twin brother, Donald. In April 2001, Ron and Arla moved off the farm to a new home in Larchwood. Ron assisted a close friend during planting and harvest seasons for a number of years following his retirement. In August of 2020, Ron and Arla moved to Ecumen Meadows in Worthington, MN, to be closer to family. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, and his three grandchildren brought joy to his life.
Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arla Horn; son, Daniel (Monica) Horn; grandchildren, Jonathan Horn, Joshua Horn, and Jocelyn Horn; brothers-in-law, LaVerne Thielman, Dennis Peterson, and Eldon Christoferson; sisters-in-law, Lorna Horn and June Munkvold; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother; brothers-in-law, Delbert Thielman and Richard Munkvold; and sisters-in-law, Elnora Thielman, Carol Peterson, and Marilyn Christoferson.
Blessed be his memory.
