Little Rock, IA Ronald Venenga age 75 of Little Rock, Iowa died Friday, October 1, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial service will be 10:30AM, Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock with Reverend Barry Wynveen, officiating. A private family burial will take place prior to the service. Visitation will be Monday, October 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Salem Reformed Church. A recording of the service will be available later in the day on Tuesday. Ronald Gene Venenga was born July 22, 1946 in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Rentje and Jennie (Van Dyke) Venenga. He was raised on a farm by Bigelow, Minnesota and attended school in Worthington, graduating in 1964. On February 9, 1968 Ron was united in marriage to Bonnie (Odens) at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. Ron joined the United States Army Reserve on May 13, 1968 and served until 1971. While active in the Reserve, he was deployed to Vietnam. Together Ron and Bonnie lived in rural Sibley until 1974 when they moved to their current home in Little Rock. In the past Ron worked at Great Plains Lumber and Joes Ready Mix, both in Little Rock before working for Modern Gas Company as a driver. Ron was a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock where he served on Consistory Board as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a member of the volunteer fire department and Emergency Medical Services. Ron was a hard worker and took pride in maintaining the city park. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Twins, Vikings and Hawkeyes. Saturdays were one of his favorite days of the week as he looked forward to taking day trips, shopping and going out to eat. He enjoyed playing cards, Bingo for prizes and any game that allowed him to win money. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and enjoyed making people laugh. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie; children, Gregory Venenga of Rock Valley, IA, Ronda (Ryan) Pottebaum of Orange City, Carmen Venenga of Waukee, IA, Derek (Tara) Venenga of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Kaden, Jorgen, Lauren, Reese, and Kinnick; along with extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rentje and Jennie Venenga; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Lois Odens; brother-in-law, Rod Odens; and nephew, Chad Harms.
