   Rosemary “Rosie” Hatting, age 88 of Ashton, Iowa took her last breath here on Earth on, September 16, 2023, and her first breath in heaven. 

   Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa.  Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery of Ashton.  

     Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a Rosary service at 4:30 PM at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. 

     Rosemary Hatting was born June 13, 1935, in Melvin, the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Poss) Wimmer.  She lived South of Melvin her first year, then moved South of Ashton.  She attended St. Joseph’s School in Ashton, graduating in 1953.  After graduating, she worked as a nurse aide in Sibley Hospital for 2 years.

     In 1954 Rosemary was united in marriage to Jim Hatting.  To this union 6 children were born.  She became a stay-at-home mom until the kids were older.  In 1976, they moved to Sanborn where she worked at Prairie View Nursing Home.  In 1984 they moved back to Ashton, and she continued to work at the nursing home until 1988.  Rosie then worked at International Paper until her retirement in 2000.  Jim passed away in 2004, just 3 months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

     Rosie spent her winters in Yuma, Arizona; loved to travel with special friend, Daryl and has been to all 50 states.  She enjoyed traveling to California to visit her sisters, adult coloring books in her later years, bird watching and feeding the birds daily.  Some of her favorite memories included the Garth Brooks concert in Atlanta and camping with her family.  

     She is survived by her children, Cindy (John) Corbett, Mike (Becky) Hatting, Jan (Doyle) Trei, Tom (Melissa) Hatting, and Mark (Michelle) Hatting; brother, Ralph Wimmer; sisters, Shirley Krogman and Pat Gaul; grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

      She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; son, Glen; parents, Carl and Margaret; stepmother, Sue; grandson, Jason; in-laws, Gus and Marie Hatting; brother, Barney (Miggs); sister, Joanne Johnson; brothers-in-law, Jerry Hatting, Dennis Krogman, and Mick Gaul; and sister-in-law, Wilma Wimmer; and special friend, Daryl Renner.
