Ruby Brunk age 86 formerly of Ocheyedan, Iowa died Monday, March 10, 2025, at Ecumen Meadows Retirement Community in Worthington, MN.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ocheyedan, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA, with Reverend Richard Milbrandt officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.
In lieu of flowers Brunk family prefers memorials be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Tracy House of Ocheyedan.
Ruby Elaine Brunk was born on January 28, 1939, in Clear Lake, SD, the daughter of Horton and Arta (Franken) Jacobsma. She attended country school at Harrison #6 and later graduated from Hartley High School in 1958. Ruby and her twin sister moved to Denver, CO, and worked at the Bethesda Hospital and later moved back to Sibley, IA where she worked for the Drug Store in Sibley.
On February 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Larry Brunk at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, IA. They started living at what they called the Hilltop Popcorn Farm northeast of Ocheyedan. Later they moved to a farm east of Melvin, IA, during that time Ruby worked for Melvin Savings Back in Melvin, and they were blessed with two children, Wade and Susan. In 1970, they moved to a farm north of Ocheyedan, and in 2006, they retired and moved into Ocheyedan.
Ruby was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, baking, and cleaning. She and her husband Larry enjoyed traveling after their retirement to the Smoky Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Branson, MO, and their favorite was going to Alaska.
Ruby is survived by her son, Wade Brunk of Round Lake, MN; son-in-law, Todd Ackerman of Ocheyedan, IA; two grandsons, Derek (wife, Megan) Ackerman, and their children Quinnley and Sydney, all of Ocheyedan, IA and Devin (wife, Amy) Ackerman, and their children, Blair, Brynn and Tess, all of Harris, IA; two siblings, Ruth Alsum of Randolph, WI, and Verlyn Jacobsma of Ocheyedan, IA; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horton and Arta Jacobsma; husband, Larry Brunk; daughter, Susan Ackerman; five sibling and their spouses, Irene (John) DeYoung, Harvey (Gladys) Jacobsma, Marvin (Irma) Jacobsma, Blanche (Vertus) Frick, and Orville (Delores) Jacobsma; and brother-in-law, Nelson Alsum.
