      Ruth Helmers, age 92 of Sibley, Iowa died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.

     Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA.  A family prayer service will take place prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow the prayer service at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA.

     Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, August 16^th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Ruth E. Helmers was born October 24, 1929, on a farm near Melvin, IA the daughter of Henry and Lena (Habben) Boernsen. Ruth attended country school and graduated from Melvin High School in 1948. She completed training that allowed her to teach country school. She taught for a couple years near Melvin. She was united in marriage to Wendell Helmers of Melvin on June 23, 1950. They lived and farmed in Goewey Township for four years. In 1954, they moved to their present home in rural Sibley where they farmed.  Ruth was a loving wife, mother and caregiver and was always involved with helping on the farm. Cooking, baking and caring for her family and friends was what she enjoyed the most. She enjoyed tending to her garden and canning her bountiful harvest. During her life she worked at the Melvin and Ocheyedan schools in the lunchroom and later substituted at Sibley. Making meals for others was Ruth’s love language. She and her “Merry 7” group always had a good time together. This past year Ruth was honored by being named one of the Osceola County Sesquicentennial Queens. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her, and she would show her love for them with games and meals. Ruth moved to Heartwood Heights in Sibley a little over a year ago. She enjoyed her time being a part of Bible study, playing games, and having coffee with the other residents who became her good friends. Ruth lived her life by faith, family, and farming.

     Ruth is survived by her children, Mark (Denise) Helmers of Allendorf, IA and Jerry (Lindsey) Helmers of Melvin, IA; six grandchildren, Matt (Shelly) Helmers of Melvin, IA; Ben (Jen) Helmers of Sibley, IA; Tim (Jessica) Helmers of Sheldon, IA; Patty (Jeremy) Wollmuth of Sibley, IA; Kendall (Jenna) Helmers of Melvin, IA and Allison (Nyles) Schimmer of Hartley, IA; seventeen great grandchildren and one sister, Sharlene (Don) Leith of Afton, IA.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; two sons, Todd in infancy and Paul (daughter-in-law, Joan) Helmers; her parents, Henry and Lena and sister, Velma (Romanas) Monier.
