Ruth Krull, age 94 of Sibley, Iowa died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10th at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Terry Simm officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10th from 9:30 AM until the hour of service at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.
Ruth Ione Krull was born on March 23, 1925 in George, IA, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Willemssen) Funk. She attended Sibley High School and later graduated in 1943. On October 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ted Krull and to this union they adopted three daughters, Colleen, Suzanne and Penny.
Ruth worked various jobs throughout her life, as a secretary for attorney George Gill, grocery store, secretary for DHS, Campbell Soup and the job she was most proud being the Site Manager for the Senior Citizen Center for twenty-five years under the Northwest Aging Association.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley for over 50+ year, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and catechism. She sang in the choir and was a PW member.
Ruth and Ted started the Student Exchange Program in the Sibley school and over the years had nine Exchange Students in their home. This was a project that Ruth loved. Ruth and Ted treated them like their own kids and had always kept in touch with most of them over the years and when they talked to them, they always called them mom and dad.
Ruth was very involved in the community and served on the Hospital Auxiliary at the time the hospital was being built. She also served on the committee to build a new high school after a fire destroyed the old school, and again when the middle school had to be added on.
Ruth liked to sew and made most of her own clothes for her and her family. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Colleen Harms of Sibley, IA, Suzanne Steele of Minneapolis, MN and Penny Petersen of Sibley, IA; eight grandchildren, Shellie Jacobsma of Seattle, WA, David Jacobsma of Minneapolis, MN, Heidi Jacobsma of Allendorf, IA, Chris (Lindsay) Harms of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeremiah (Lindsey) Schroder of Sibley, IA, Dominic (Gabrielle) Luster of Minneapolis, MN, Nic and Megan Petersen of Sibley, IA; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeanette Funk of Los Angeles, CA; special niece, Robin (Jay) Jefferies of Palo Alto, CA; foreign exchange student, Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel of Germany; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie Funk; husband, Ted Krull; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Glen (Charlotte “Chuck”) Funk, Lyle Funk and Ervin Funk; one sister and brother-in-law, Leone “Jodi” (Dale) Silker; and two nieces.
