Stanley Robert Engelkes

Stanley Engelkes age 88 of Adrian, MN died Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Adrian, MN with Pastor Bruce Branson officiating. Burial will follow at the Adrian Cemetery in Adrian, MN.
Visitation will be Friday, October 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with family present at the First Baptist Church in Adrian.
Stanley Robert Engelkes was born November 29, 1929 to Jurgen and Anna (Oltmans) Engelkes. He grew up on the family farm just west of Rushmore and graduated from Worthington High School in 1948. Stan was drafted in the Marine Corps and was stationed at Pt Magu and Mri 5 El Toro in CA from 1951-1953.
In 1957 Stan was united in marriage to Marjorie Eshleman. The couple took up farming near Lismore, MN where they built their house and raised their daughters, Jan and Cheryl. Marge passed away in 1994. Stan retired from farming and married LaDonn Gruis in 1997 and moved to her home in Adrian, MN.
Stan loved nature. He knew birds by their song and flight and had a dog at his side most of his life. Fishing was one of his passions which he enjoyed on both liquid and frozen water. He liked watching sports and keeping current with the news and weather. In his later life, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch and visiting with neighbors. He much enjoyed a good laugh.
Stan is survived by his second wife, LaDonn Gruis, of Adrian, MN; daughter, Jan (Jeff Saul) Engelkes of Denver, CO; step-sons, Greg (Coleen) Gruis of Rushmore, MN and Brad (Alice) Gruis of Baltic, SD; step-daughter, Lori Mejia of Adrian, MN; 6 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jurgen and Anna Engelkes; first wife, Marge in 1994; daughter, Cheryl in 1996; and siblings, Jurgen (Jerry), Frances, Lloyd, and Vernon.
