Stanley "Stan" Duane Johnson

     Stanley “Stan” Johnson age 88, of Sibley, Iowa died Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 3^rd at the Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA.

     Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton.  Following burial, lunch will be served at the Ashton Legion Hall.

     Visitation will be Sunday, June 2^nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Zoar Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA.

     The Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton is handling arrangements.

     Stanley Duane Johnson, the son of Mike and Dena (Addengast) Johnson, was born on September 6, 1930, on a farm west of Ashton.

     He attended Gilman #4 and later graduated from the Ashton High School in 1948.  He worked on the home farm until being drafted into the U.S. Army, and served from November of 1952 to November of 1953 in Korea.

     He married Lois Wubbena on December 29, 1954.  The couple started farming in 1955 on their farm west of Ashton.  Lois passed away on June 26, 2007.

     He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashton until the church was closed.  He then became a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church.

     He served over 30 years as an Elder.  He also served on the local elevator board for over twenty years, and served on the county Farm Bureau Board for six years.  He helped organize the Osceola rural water system, where he served on the board for nine years.  Stan served on the Osceola Community Hospital Board for many years.  Stan was a member of the William Ben Hoffman American Legion Post No. 290 since 1953, where he served as commander and adjutant.

     He enjoyed raising quarter horses and had a small herd of registered Limousine cattle with his son, grandson and granddaughter.  Stan retired from farming after forty-five years on the same farm and moved to their home in Ashton.  He still loved going out to the farm looking after his horses and cattle.

     Stan is survived by his son, Randall Johnson (Ashton) and his children, Ryan (Mitchell, SD) and Alissa Fosdick (Thadd) great granddaughters Hattie & Thea (Fairbury, IL); daughter, Melanie (Daryl) Schmitt (New Hampton, IA) and their son Riley (Iowa City, IA); daughter, Robin (Tony) Krier (Excelsior, MN) their children, Josh (Minnetonka, MN), Lucas (Durham, NC) and Emily (Excelsior, MN); and son, Jamie (Sonya) Johnson  and their daughter, Abagail (Minneapolis, MN); special friend Laura Voigt (Algona, IA); two brothers, Virgil Johnson of Bayse, VA and Howard Johnson of Ashton, IA; three sisters, Marjorie Roelofsen of Milford, IA, Betty (Bob) Blankers of Owatonna, MN and Arlyce Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Dena Johnson; wife, Lois Johnson; infant son; brother, Doug Johnson.
