  Sylvia Bosma, age 83 of Sibley, IA passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at her home in Sibley.

  Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the First Reformed Church of Sibley. 

  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the First Reformed Church, Sibley, IA, with Rev. Brian Carpenter, officiating.  Livestream of Memorial Service

  Burial will precede the Service at the Union Cemetery, rural Harris, IA. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Michael J. Fox Foundation or Avera Hospice

Sylvia Joan Vellema was born on April 15, 1941, to parents, Henry and Bertha (Walburg) Vellema in Worthington, MN. She grew up near Harris, Iowa as the oldest of eleven siblings. She attended Ocheyedan Christian Elementary and Harris High School, and later graduated from Dordt College with her teaching degree and went on to teach Kindergarten, 1st grade, and later preschool. She also taught piano lessons for many years. 

 She was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Bosma (her forever boyfriend) on October 6, 1961, in Ocheyedan, IA. The couple made their home and raised their four kids near Harris where she loved life on the farm. In 2008 Sylvia and Jerry moved to Sibley. 

 Sylvia loved Jesus above all else and lived out that love by being a wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandmother, and through her many other interests: playing the piano and organ, family camping trips, tea parties with friends and family, gardening, flowers, reading, cooking, and enjoying desserts! 

 Sylvia is survived by her husband Jerry of 62 years; four children, Joel (Barbara) Bosma, Jeffrey (Ronda) Bosma, Karen (Joseph Benesh) Ten Napel and Jonathan (Angie) Bosma; seven grandchildren, Brooke Ten Napel, Clint Bosma, Josh Bosma, Nicole Ten Napel, Katrina Bosma, Jillian Brueggeman, Harris Bosma, and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Isabella Bosma; eight brothers and sisters Adela (Dennis) Daggett, Carol (Bob) Murphy, Phyllis (Dennis) Bosma, Cindy (Lynn) Van De Brake, Janie (Jeff) Vande Griend, Donna (EJ) King, Lori (Paul) Kroeze and Paul (Phyllis) Vellema. Preceding Sylvia in death were her parents (Henry and Bertha Vellema), her in-laws (Pete and Jenny Bosma), son-in-law Jay Ten Napel, brothers Robert and Kenneth Vellema, sisters-in-law Ellen Bosma and Shirley Ten Napel, and brother-in-law Fred Ten Napel.
